What Makes Gesha Coffee So Special?
Gesha (or Geisha) is one of the world’s most sought‑after coffee varieties, prized for its extraordinary aromatics and refined flavour profile. Originating from Ethiopia and made famous in Panama, Gesha is known for its jasmine florals, bergamot, stone fruit sweetness and tea‑like clarity. It’s a variety that rewards careful roasting and precise brewing — and it’s a favourite among competition baristas and flavour‑focused home brewers.
Our Approach to Roasting Gesha
Gesha demands a gentle, highly controlled roast profile to preserve its delicate structure. At Motobean, we roast Gesha light to medium‑light, focusing on:
- High clarity and floral expression
- Sweetness and layered acidity
- Clean, tea‑like finish
- Balanced structure for filter or modern espresso
Each lot is cupped repeatedly to ensure the roast highlights the origin’s natural elegance.

How to Brew Gesha for Best Results
To bring out the full character of Gesha:
- Brew as filter (V60, Kalita, batch brew) for maximum clarity
- Use 92–94°C water to preserve florals
- Aim for a 2:45–3:15 brew time
- Keep your grind slightly finer than your standard filter recipe
- For espresso, use a 1:2.2–1:2.4 ratio for clarity and sweetness
Each product page includes recommended brew notes from our roasting team.
