The Legacy of Gesha Oasis: Four Generations Behind Colombia’s Most Exceptional Geisha Coffee

This is the story behind Gesha Oasis Coffee Farm — a story of persistence, innovation, and a deep connection to the land.

When you taste the floral intensity and vibrant fruit character of our Colombia Gesha Oasis, you’re experiencing far more than a beautifully processed coffee. You’re tasting the legacy of a family who has spent four generations shaping one of the most respected Gesha coffee farms in Colombia’s Tolima region.

As you explore the legacy behind Gesha Oasis, you can taste the result of this four‑generation craft in our own offerings through the Motobean Gesha Coffee Collection.

A Family Dream Begins in Gaitania

The origins of the farm trace back to 1970, when Raúl Durán’s father, an employee of the National Coffee Federation, arrived in the remote community of Gaitania, Tolima. Captivated by the region’s potential, he and his wife, Gilma Gutiérrez, purchased four hectares of land — a modest beginning that would eventually grow into a pioneering specialty coffee farm.

Raúl, born in 1973, grew up surrounded by coffee trees, learning the rhythms of cultivation and the nuances of the land. This early immersion laid the foundation for the expertise he carries today.

A New Generation Takes the Helm

In 2006, Raúl and his three brothers inherited the family farm. Two years later, Raúl and his wife, Astrid Medina, made a pivotal decision: they purchased the remaining shares from his brothers and committed themselves fully to elevating the farm’s potential.

Under their leadership, the farm transformed from a traditional operation into a modern, quality‑driven estate. Today, it remains a true family enterprise — with their children, granddaughter, and nephew all contributing to the cultivation, harvesting, and processing of the coffees that make Gesha Oasis so distinctive.

A Coffee Farm Built for Complexity and Innovation

The farm now hosts more than 60,000 coffee trees, representing both heritage and innovation. Alongside traditional Colombian varietals such as Caturra, Colombia, and Castillo, the Durán family cultivates high‑value exotics including:

  • Gesha (Geisha)
  • Borbón Rosado
  • Papayo

Their commitment to experimental and premium varietals is matched by their investment in advanced processing techniques — from meticulous washed fermentations to carefully controlled anaerobic methods.

This combination of history, innovation, and precision is what makes Gesha Oasis one of the most exciting sources of single origin Geisha coffee in Colombia.

Why Gesha Oasis Coffee Stands Out

The coffees from this farm are celebrated for:

  • High clarity and floral aromatics
  • Refined acidity and sweetness
  • Exceptional varietal expression
  • Consistent quality across harvests

Each lot reflects the Durán family’s dedication to excellence and their deep understanding of the land they’ve cultivated for more than 50 years.
