Cecilia Realpe Family Coffee Farmers Colombia - Finca El Placer

Cecilia Realpe – Colombia’s Big Momma of Coffee

The story of a remarkable coffee farmer from Finca El Placer, Nariño

So, who is Cecilia?

Cecilia Realpe is affectionately known as the “big momma” of her family — the heart, anchor and guiding force behind a large group of coffee growers in the Nariño region of Colombia. Their home, Finca El Placer, sits in one of the most celebrated coffee‑producing areas in the country, known for its unique flavour profiles and exceptional cup quality.

But what makes Cecilia truly special is not just her coffee. It’s the story of a coffee farmer whose strength, resilience and family spirit have shaped every cherry that leaves their farm.

Cecilia’s Coffee, Cecilia’s Craft

Much of the family’s work happens at her brother Alonso’s home, where their shared wet mill is located. Each family member takes turns processing their harvest, giving their coffee its own signature touch.

And this particular lot — this beautiful, expressive bean — is Cecilia’s.

Hand‑picked, carefully processed and full of the character that defines Nariño, it reflects her dedication to her craft and her deep connection to the land.

A Story of Family Resilience

Life in Nariño has never been simple. The region has endured decades of armed insurgency, neglect and marginalisation. Yet through it all, Cecilia has remained the steady centre of her family — a coffee farmer who refused to let hardship define their future.

Together, the Realpe family built a network of small, diversified farms, creating multiple income streams and growing their own food to stay resilient. Their strength, resourcefulness and unity are woven into every harvest.

Why Your Coffee Choice Matters

At Motobean, we love sharing the stories behind the beans because your coffee choices genuinely make a difference. Every cup you brew supports real people, real communities and real change.

And that’s something to feel proud of.
